Understanding Semax / Selank
Semax and Selank are peptides developed in Russia and used clinically there, but never approved in the United States. They are frequently discussed together, though they were designed for different purposes.
Educational information only — not medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Prescription peptides require clinical evaluation.

What is Semax / Selank?
Semax is a synthetic peptide derived from a fragment of ACTH, modified so it no longer carries hormonal activity. It was developed for neuroprotective and cognitive applications and is used in Russia in stroke and cognitive indications.
Selank is a synthetic analog of tuftsin, an immune-modulating peptide fragment. It was developed as an anxiolytic — an anti-anxiety agent — intended to work without sedation or dependence.
Neither is FDA-approved. Both are typically administered as nasal sprays because that route allows peptides to reach the central nervous system more directly.
What makes it different

How Semax / Selank is thought to work
Step by step, in plain language — without overstating what has been demonstrated in people.
Semax and BDNF
Semax is associated with increased brain-derived neurotrophic factor, a protein central to neuronal survival and plasticity.
Semax and dopamine signalling
Effects on dopaminergic and serotonergic transmission are reported, which is the proposed basis for changes in focus and motivation.
Selank and GABA signalling
Selank is described as modulating GABA-related pathways — the calming system — without the sedation or dependence associated with benzodiazepines.
Selank and serotonin balance
Studies report influence on serotonin metabolism, relevant to mood stability under stress.
Intranasal delivery
The nasal route is used because it provides more direct access to the central nervous system than oral administration.
Potential benefits — and honest limits
These are areas of research interest, not promised outcomes. Individual response varies and depends heavily on what else is going on in your body.
Focus and attention
The most commonly reported effect of Semax in the published Russian literature.
Neuroprotective interest
Semax has been studied in ischaemic contexts, which is where much of its clinical use originated.
Anxiety without sedation
Selank's design intent — calm without the cognitive dulling associated with sedatives.
Stress resilience
Both are studied for how well people function under sustained cognitive load.
Sleep-adjacent effects
Reduced anxiety often improves sleep onset indirectly, though neither is a sleep medication.
Important caveat
Most research is published in Russian, with limited Western replication. That is a genuine evidence limitation, not a technicality.
Who explores Semax / Selank
These are the goals and concerns people are usually working on when Semax / Selank comes up in consultation. Fit is a clinical decision, not a checklist.
- Adults experiencing brain fog and reduced focus alongside hormonal change
- People exploring non-sedating options for stress-related symptoms with clinical guidance
- Those who want an honest assessment of the evidence rather than nootropic marketing
- Anyone whose cognitive complaints have already prompted thyroid, iron, B12 and hormone testing
When it isn't appropriate
What the evidence currently supports
Peptide research is genuinely early in most cases. We summarize it as it stands, gaps included — because you cannot make a good decision from marketing copy.
Extensive Russian clinical use

How Hormone Bliss approaches peptide therapy
Education first
You should understand what a molecule does — and what the evidence actually shows — before anyone prescribes it. That is why these pages exist and why they include the caveats.
Clinical review, always
Every request is reviewed by a licensed clinician against your history, medications and labs before anything is prescribed or shipped.
Individualized protocols
Dose, route and duration are chosen for you. We do not sell fixed stacks and we do not run protocols indefinitely.
Hormones come first
Peptides are rarely the missing piece on their own. If estrogen, progesterone, testosterone or thyroid are off, that is addressed first.
Coaching alongside
Sleep, protein, strength and stress determine most of your result. Coaching is part of the program, not an upsell.
Honest limits
If the evidence is thin, we say so. If a peptide is a poor fit for your goal, we will tell you that instead of selling it to you.
